Day 1: Arrival in Zurich

Arrival in Zurich and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy some time at leisure before meeting at the hotel for a welcome drink and dinner. Overnight and dinner at hotel in Zurich.

Day 2: Zurich - Black Forest

Travel beyond Switzerland to Southern Germany and the Black Forest—a region famed for its hand carved cuckoo clocks and delicious gateaux. Visit a centre of the wood carving industry to meet skilled artisans who still make cuckoo clocks by hand. Continue to beautiful Lake Titisee before heading to our hotel in the heart of the Black Forest. Overnight and dinner at hotel in Titisee.

Day 3: Black Forest - Lindau

Enjoy a scenic drive past the lakes of the Black Forest region, stopping at the town of Constance, then onwards past the shores of Lake Constance to island town of Lindau accessible by causeway. Enjoy a free afternoon to explore Lindau. Overnight and dinner at hotel in Lindau.

Day 4: Lindau - Munich

Travel to Neuschwanstein - Mad King Ludwig’s fairy tale castle spectacularly perched on an alpine mountainside. Visit the elaborate apartments, including the throne room and Lohengrin Grotto. Continue to Oberammergau, home of the Passion Play (staged every decade - the next performances being in 2020), before heading to the Bavarian capital, Munich. Overnight and dinner at hotel in Munich.

Day 5: Munich

This morning enjoy an introductory orientation tour of Munich. The remains of the day are free to further explore independently. Overnight at hotel in Munich.

Day 6: Munich - Salzburg

A short drive leads to Salzburg, ‘alive with the sound of music‘. See the formal gardens of Mirabell Palace, the imposing fortress, the cathedral in the Old Town and Mozart‘s birthplace. Afternoon at leisure. Be sure to stock up on chocolate Mozartkugeln! Overnight at hotel in Salzburg.

Day 7: Salzburg - Vienna

First stop is at Mondsee to see the ‘Sound of Music‘ church, before continuing on through Melk to the beautiful town of Dürnstein. Visit a local winery to learn about and sample the unique Wachau style of wine. Finally, head for the Austrian capital of Vienna for dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at hotel in Vienna.

Day 8: Vienna

Revel in the visual highlights of Schönbrunn Palace. Spend some time in the formal gardens before going on to view St. Charles‘ Church, the Hofburg Palace, Parliament and State Opera House. Afternoon free. Overnight at hotel in Vienna.

Day 9: Vienna - St Veit an der Glan - Klagenfurt

Take a delightful drive through the pine forests and sleepy towns of Styria and Carinthia, climb the dramatic Semmering Pass and stop in Kindberg. Continue to St. Veit an der Glan, former seat of the

Dukes of Carinthia and enjoy exploring the fabulous medieval city walls, the old town square and the ancient Plague column. Driver further to the Capital of Carinthia Klagenfurt. Overnight and dinner at hotel in Klagenfurt.

Day 10: Klagenfurt - Innsbruck

Head for the rugged peaks of the Dolomites. Enter Italy by way of Lago di Misurina and the Tre Croci Pass to pause in the fashionable ski resort of Cortina d‘Ampezzo. Cross back into Austria and continue to Innsbruck, set in a valley of snow-capped mountain peaks. Walk amid the 14th century houses of the old town, seeing the Imperial Palace and Golden Roof. Overnight and dinner at hotel in Innsbruck.

Day 11: Innsbruck - St Moritz

This morning, enter Switzerland, and drive along the beautiful Engadine Valley to the chic alpine resort of St Moritz. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight and dinner at hotel in St.Moritz.

Day 12: St Moritz - Bernina Pass

Today enjoy a smorgasbord of glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and forests aboard the Bernina Express - a rail journey up the Bernina Pass, with an incredible descent via a series of sharp zigzags and loops. Alight in at Poschiavo for a coach transfer back to the hotel. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure in St Moritz. Overnight and dinner at hotel in St.Moritz.

Day 13: St Moritz - Grindelwald

All aboard for the Glacier Express – one of the world‘s great railway journeys. Descend through the Albula Pass and cross the Landwasser Viaduct before heading down through the Oberalp Valley to rejoin the coach at Andermatt. Drive through the dramatic Schöllenen Gorge past the Devil‘s Bridge. Continue through William Tell Country to our traditional Swiss chalet hotel in the beautiful village of Grindelwald in the Berner Oberland. Overnight and dinner at hotel in Grindelwald.

Day 14: Grindelwald

Jungfrau via Lauterbrunnen. Marvel at the Wetterhorn Peaks on a journey along the Grindelwald Valley. Follow the sparkling Lutschine River to Lauterbrunnen at the head of the ‘Valley of Waterfalls‘, and see the Staubbach Falls plunge 300 metres from the plateau above. Then enjoy an amazing journey aboard a cogwheel train from Lauterbrunnen via Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch railway station (3454m), running close behind the Eiger’s north face. Clint Eastwood’s movie ‘The Eiger Sanction’ was filmed here. An added bonus is year-round surface snow! This is literally the top of Europe! Overnight and dinner at hotel in Grindelwald.

Day 15: Grindelwald - Lucerne

A delightful drive along the shores of the lake leads to the woodcarving town of Brienz century. See first-hand this artisanal craft at the Jobin Swiss Woodcarving Centre. Continue over the Brunig Pass and onto the lakeside city of Lucerne. Overnight and dinner at hotel in Lucerne.

Day 16: Lucerne

Embark on a thrilling trip by cable car and cogwheel railway to the summit of Mount Pilatus (2128m) offering stunning views over the lakes, countryside and surrounding hills. Return to the beautiful 14th c. city of Lucerne to see the covered wooden bridges, together with the Baroque church and sorrowful Lion Monument. The afternoon is free. Tonight, sample typical Swiss cuisine with wine at a farewell Celebration Dinner. Overnight at 4* hotel in Lucerne.

Day 17: Departure from Switzerland

After breakfast transfer to Zurich Airport for the onward flight.
